Dr. Mary Anne White is a physical chemist and a professor of chemistry and physics at Dalhousie University. Over five years she developed a new class of chemicals which absorb waste heat from industrial processes, and which can also be used to insulate homes. During this time, Dr. White received funding from federal government agencies, such as the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council. Dr. White says her father, "a frustrated inventor", subtly encouraged her to pursue a career in science; her two older brothers also have science-related professions.
